Activision Celebrates a Successful 2013 with Call of Duty at Top

According to sales data from the NPD Group -Call of Duty: Ghosts has been crowned the number one top selling game of 2013. Activision made the announcement earlier today also confirmed that Skylanders Swap Force was second owing to the inclusion of revenue generated from the sales of toys and related accessories. “This consumer response to both Call of Duty: Ghosts and Skylanders [Swap Force] speaks to the deep connection both franchises have made with fans, which fuels our commitment to delivering great games time and again,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.

According to the report December’s top-selling titles were:

1. Call of Duty: Ghosts

2. Battlefield 4

3. Just Dance 2014

This marks Call of Duty’s fifth consecutive year of being the best-selling franchise in terms of both units sold and profit generated. In the US, Skylanders which came in at number 10 on software sales alone is now celebrating its second year as the top-selling video game franchise for kids as well as being number three on the list of 2013′s best-selling franchises overall.
