Episode III: Yoda’s Bad Cliché

The scene where Yoda faces off against Darth Sidious is actually pretty awesome, except for one terrible moment. Sidious, now in full power, boasts to Yoda, telling him, “at last the Jedi are no more.”

Yoda could respond with a hundred different statements. Maybe something simple like, “not yet,” or perhaps, “not while I’m still alive,” and then the fight could begin. But unfortunately, Yoda responds with, “not if anything to say about it, I have.”

This is one of the ultimate ‘shake my head’ moments in the whole series. In attempting to make Yoda cooler, all George Lucas does is make him cheesier. You really expect me to believe that the wisest, most powerful Jedi in the galaxy would say something as childish as, “not if I have anything to say about it”? That’s a typical statement for a child to say when they know they have lost an argument, but don’t want to admit it. Yoda might as well just make a ‘yo mamma’ joke. It would be just as effective.
