Episode VI: Jedi Rocks
There are many aspects of the special editions and re-releases of the original trilogy that are great. Fixing backdrops, animating certain characters and sequences, color corrections – these things are all great. And then there’s Jedi Rocks.
This weird musical number from Return of the Jedi perfectly summarizes everything that’s bad about the special editions of the original trilogy.
The song isn’t even mildly entertaining, and the CGI characters during the scene look out of place next to all the characters from the original release. And this is Star Wars, right? Is there any reason for this awkward musical number to even take place? Watching this scene makes me feel so uncomfortable that I skip it every time.
