Who’s excited for Lego Dimensions? I know I am, and so are numerous amounts of people. Lego Dimensions is an upcoming title that brings “toys to life” and these toys are Lego characters from a multitude of different facets. Traveller’s Tales has developed and published the title for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A masked villain breaks into multiple worlds, causing a bit of havoc in each.

While at San Diego Comic-Con, I was able to get some hands on experience with the title and saw what gamers will be getting themselves into first hand. The title comes with a starter pack, giving players a toy pad, bricks to build the Lego gateway, Batman, Gandalf, Wyldstyle, and the Batmobile. At the beginning of the demo, players get to pick between The Wizard of Oz, Aperture (from Portal), The Wizard of Oz, and Scooby Doo and once a character is picked you’re good to go.

Let me summarize this for you since the demo was fifteen minutes of gameplay time. Essentially, there are bits and pieces within each level that are specific to each character and in order to change characters one can either tap the triangle button next to the character they want to switch to — as the demo was being played on PS4, or you can hold it to bring up a wheel that allows you to choose which character you want to be. The same goes for hopping into a vehicle, as players can either tap triangle or hold onto it.

Throughout the levels are puzzles that the characters and the players have to overcome — whether it be finding a keystone and seeing how it might help or moving a lazer a certain way, and at the end of it all you’ve got the sense of accomplishment knowing that you’ve got through five levels of play in just a few minutes — even if there is a Lego Dimensions worker standing next to you helping you along the way. While the set up of Lego Dimensions is similar to Disney Infinity, or Skylanders there’s still a special twist on it, giving it an identity of its own. The title looks promising — I mean heck, I’ve already pre-ordered it due to my hands on time, and players will be able to get lots and lots of time with it.

While the starter pack is what comes with the title, players are more than welcome to get their hands on the various other packs that the title has to offer such as Back to the Future, Portal 2, Jurassic World and more.

Lego Dimensions makes its way to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 27th in NA and September 29th in EU.
